Dwight! I doubt you will read this... but on the off chance that you do, please, I am begging, forget about the offense and how many touches you get for the rest of this series! You can completely own Boston defensively. You are the key to shutting them down and winning the next two games. Stay focused! Handle your business on the defensive end.
No one on the Cavs can stop you. The next series is your time to shine offensively, but the team won't get to the ECF's if you lose focus and let Boston and the refs get into your head.
Take what the offense gives you, but don't lose sight of the fact that our team defense is built around you. You are the focal point of what has been league leading defense over the course of the regular season. If you let the Celtics and the Refs get into your head and lose focus, our team defense falls apart.
Right now, at this moment, you have a chance at winning an NBA championship. Some players go their entire career without getting this close. I happen to believe you will win several over the course of your career, but don't pass up this chance right now. Embrace it, relish it, take control of this series and put your stamp on it defensively.
Let Boston focus on you, let them do their best to take you out of the game offensively, let the rest of the Magic take advantage of that. Make Boston pay on the other end of the court. Right now, Dwight, it is all about defense, your focus, and your mind set. The team needs you. Orlando needs you. The Magic can't do this without you.
If you can put aside your desire for more touches, for your focus on defense, for just two games. Two games, Dwight, that is all it will take to push yourself and this team to the next level. That is all it will take to show them that you are a true team leader, that you can recognize that it takes different things from series to series, game to game, for you to lead this team to victory over Boston.
Ignore the cheap fouls the refs hand out when Pierce flails his arms and throws his head back like he has been shot every time he turns the corner. Ignore the two hands of Perkins that have become a permanent fixture in your lower back every time you take that hook shot. Ignore the fouls Rondo gets when he trips over his own feat. You can make all of those things insignificant by leading this team to two wins in the next two games.
You can do this, Dwight. You can make this happen. You can lead this team past Boston and into the Eastern Conference Finals to face Cleveland. And then, you can have your way with them inside for the entire series.
Your Fan,
