Today we continue our player grades. Thursday we completed Jeremy Richardson and we kicked things off on Wednesday with Courtney Lee.
Player: Battie, Tony
Stats: Tony Battie played in 77 games this season starting 3. In 15.6 minutes per game he averaged a robust 4.8/3.6/0.4/0.3/0.3. He finished the year with a 49.8% field goal percentage as well as a 69.9% free throw percentage.
Best Game: On November 26, 2008 ESPN aired a game between your Orlando Magic and the newly minted Eastern Conference Champion Philadelphia 76ers and Elton Brand. What transpired will go down in the annals of time as Tony Battie would go 9-9 from the floor and 2-3 from the free throw line to score 20 points in 20 minutes. Tony's performance would lead the Magic to an improbable 96-94 victory in one of the greatest upsets of the shot clock era. Later on the players would say this was the performance that catapulted them to the finals.
Worst Game: January 24, 2009: In a 103-97 loss to the Miami Heat Tony played 7 minutes. He managed 2 personal fouls, one field goal, and no rebounds.
Most Memorable Moment: Mama there goes that man again. Tony Battie rejects a first quarter Kobe Bryant layup attempt during Game 3 of the NBA Finals sending the Amway faithful into a frenzy.
Offense: Somehow Tony has convinced himself he is right on par with Richard Hamilton and Ben Gordon with his mid-range jumpshot so he basically looks to shoot whenever he catches the ball. Unfortunately the shots are usually terrible, early in the shot clock or off broken possessions.
Defense: N/A
Fans Perspective: Meh. We know what we are going to get at this point. Tony will shoot jumpers at a rapid clip and stay away from the paint like he is allergic to led.
Expectations for 2010: Tony's expiring deal is the Magic's most valuable trade asset so I expect him to be gone.

Perfect. Together, we are Magic fans. We remember Nick’s steal against Jordan, Billy Donovan, Scott Skiles, Jerryl Sasser and Reece Gaines, The Mac Attacks, the NBA on NBC, and Grant Hill’s ankle. We also watch TV and read the internet, thus noticing the endless flow of unoriginal Orlando Magic related puns. We have combined to discuss the Magic, the NBA, and from time to time supply side economics and the life of Leonardo da Vinci. Together we are The Puns Are Starting to Bore Me.
