Rashard Lewis To Be Suspended

Mike Bianchi of the Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Rashard Lewis will be suspended for the first ten games of next season for testing positive for a banned substance....

Obviously when you read banned substance the first thought is steroids but the substance he tested for is very common according to the article. I know as a fan the easy thing to do is say it was a mistake and it could happen to anyone but in this case it seems like it fits. The only thing Rashard seems guilty of to me is not being as careful as he should be with what enters his body.

Rashard will be eligible to come back to the team on Monday October 16th vs. the Charlotte Bobcats. The first ten games of the season are not exactly a meat grinder so the real challenge could be dealing with the media scrunity that will come for such a high profile guy being suspended.

It seems like his agent is out in front of the story and they are very aware of the situation. More to come as the story develops.

Actually now Rashard has released a statement here.

“First and foremost I take full responsibility for the situation and accept the corresponding penalty.

Toward the end of the season I took an over-the-counter supplement which at the time I did not realize included a substance banned by the NBA. 

I apologize to Magic fans, my teammates and this organization for not doing the research that should come with good judgment. 

I hope this unintentional mistake will not reflect poorly on our team and its great character. 

I hope every athlete can learn from my mistake that supplements, no matter how innocent they seem, should only be taken after consulting an expert in the field.”
